University of Vermont interim President Patty Prelock is set to become the new provost at the University of Arizona on May 19, according to a letter from Cynthia Barnhart, the chair of UVM’s board of trustees.
Prelock was selected out of four finalists for the role and accepted Arizona’s offer Tuesday, according to a release from the University of Arizona.
Marlene Tromp, the former president of Boise State University, was selected last month as the Vermont university’s next president and is set to step into the role this summer. UVM’s acting provost, Linda Schadler, plans to take on the administrative duties of the president until Tromp’s term begins, in line with the university’s bylaws, university spokesperson Basil Waugh said.
Prelock leaves Vermont after 30 years with the university, including as a provost and senior vice president. She became interim president after then-UVM President Suresh Garimella left Vermont to become president at the University of Arizona in October.
In her letter to the UVM community, Barnhart wrote that Prelock’s decision was “informed by a combination of professional and personal considerations,” including the opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren who live in the state.
