Austyn Gaffney, Environmental Reporter & UVM Instructor
Austyn Gaffney covers the environment for VTDigger and is an instructor for the Community News Service at the University of Vermont.
Previously, she was the 2024-2025 climate fellow at The New York Times. Before her fellowship, she got her Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Kentucky and worked as a freelance writer based in Louisville, where she reported award-winning stories for The Guardian, Oxford American, Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, among many others.
Austyn is originally from Ontario, Canada, and she grew up in Kentucky. She likes being outside.
